Premium Rainbow Iridescent Foil Metallic Fabric
Premium Rainbow Iridescent Foil Metallic Fabric is a South Korea-made lightweight woven fashion fabric with a colour-shifting rainbow foil surface over a smooth 100% silky polyamide base. At 100 GSM and 150 cm wide, it is opaque, non-stretch and fluid, making it suited to abayas, kaftans, evening gowns, dresses, skirts, blouses and statement occasionwear.
The iridescent surface changes appearance as light, folds and viewing angle move across the fabric. Unlike a single-tone metallic finish, one colourway can reflect several hues, so the same garment may look different in daylight, studio lighting, flash or evening light. The effect is part of the foil finish rather than a woven jacquard motif.
- Composition: 100% silky polyamide
- Weight: 100 GSM — lightweight
- Width: 150 cm
- Structure: woven, non-stretch
- Coverage: opaque
- Drape: fluid
- Finish: colour-shifting iridescent rainbow foil
- Origin: South Korea
- Sold by: meter, swatch or wholesale
Order a swatch in the intended colourway before production to assess the real colour shift, opacity and drape under your own lighting. Keep main pattern pieces oriented consistently if the reflection reads directionally, and test low-heat pressing from the reverse before working on the finished garment.

What buyers ask before ordering
Why does the rainbow colour look different in photos, videos and real life?
The foil is iridescent, so its visible colours change with the light source, camera exposure, viewing angle and folds. Order a swatch when an exact appearance matters, and judge it under the lighting planned for the final garment or event.
Will the fabric look the same from every direction after cutting?
No. The reflective effect can appear stronger or shift colour when panels face different directions. Mark the top of every pattern piece and cut all main pieces in the same direction to keep the garment visually consistent.
Can the rainbow foil scratch, rub off or become dull?
Repeated friction, rough handling, harsh detergents and direct heat can damage or dull a foil surface. Keep the face protected while cutting and sewing, avoid rubbing it against rough trims, and test a swatch before production.
Will unpicking stitches leave visible holes or marks?
It can. Fine metallic fabrics may retain needle holes or surface marks, especially after repeated stitching. Test the seam first, use a fine sharp needle, pin only inside the seam allowance and avoid unnecessary unpicking.
Is this fabric difficult to cut because it moves or slips?
Its lightweight fluid drape can shift during cutting. Let it relax flat, cut in a single layer when accuracy is important, use pattern weights or clips, and use sharp scissors or a rotary cutter.
Which needle and thread should I use without damaging the finish?
Start with a new fine sharp needle and good-quality polyester thread. Test stitch length, tension and needle size on a scrap first, because the safest setting can vary by machine and seam construction.
Will the raw edges fray while I sew?
As a lightweight woven fabric, the cut edges can fray during handling. Keep seam allowances adequate and finish seams with an overlock, narrow zigzag, binding or another lightweight enclosed finish.
Does it stretch enough for a fitted or bodycon dress?
No. This fabric is non-stretch. Fitted styles need proper ease, darts, shaping, a zip or another closure; it should not be used as a substitute for stretch foil jersey.
Is it truly opaque, or can it become see-through under strong lighting?
It is classified as opaque, but very strong backlighting, pale shades or a tightly fitted garment can still reveal more than expected. Test the chosen colour against the body and under event lighting before deciding whether to line it.
Do I need a lining for an abaya, kaftan or evening gown?
A lining is not always required for coverage, but it can improve comfort, structure and seam protection. Use a light, smooth lining when the garment will touch the skin, face strong light or receive frequent wear.
Will this fabric feel hot or breathable in warm weather?
The polyamide base and foil surface are less breathable than natural fibres. For warmer climates, use a loose silhouette, minimal layering and a lightweight breathable lining, and avoid very close-fitting designs.
Can I iron or steam it without ruining the rainbow effect?
Do not apply direct high heat to the foil face. Press briefly from the reverse on low heat with a pressing cloth, and test both ironing and steaming on a swatch before touching the cut garment.
Can I machine-wash or tumble-dry the finished garment?
The safer approach is cold gentle hand washing at no more than 30°C or professional dry cleaning after testing. Do not wring or tumble-dry; air-dry gently in shade and avoid bleach, chlorine and harsh detergents.
Will several meters arrive as one continuous piece and match in colour?
Fabric is normally cut continuously when stock allows, but long orders can depend on the available roll length. For a large garment or production run, request one continuous cut and order the full quantity together to reduce roll-to-roll variation.
How many meters should I order so I do not run short?
Around 5 meters is a practical starting point for many abayas, kaftans or evening dresses, while fuller, layered or train designs may need about 8 meters or more. Final consumption depends on size, length, sleeve shape, pattern direction and matching, so confirm with the pattern maker before ordering.

Before cutting or sewing this iridescent foil polyamide fabric, test a swatch for washing, steaming, pressing, seam handling and finish durability. The colour-shifting surface can react to heat and friction, so confirm the safest settings before production.
- Test first Test a swatch before washing, steaming, pressing or cutting the full fabric.
- Needle Use a fine, sharp needle and test stitch length and tension to avoid snagging or marking the rainbow foil surface.
- Wash Use cold gentle hand washing, max 30°C, or dry clean when the safest finish protection is required.
- Dry Do not tumble dry. Air dry gently in shade and avoid twisting or strong wringing.
- Iron Press from the reverse side on low heat with a pressing cloth; do not place a hot iron directly on the iridescent face.
- Cutting Let the fabric relax flat before cutting and use sharp tools to keep edges clean and reduce surface abrasion.
General care guidance only. Results may vary by colour, rainbow foil finish, water quality, heat, friction and garment construction.
Compare to Single-tone metallic foil
Both create a reflective metallic surface, but this fabric shifts through multiple hues while a single-tone foil stays within one dominant metallic colour.
This fabric is better when
- The iridescent finish changes visibly with light, folds and movement.
- Its 100 GSM fluid base suits lightweight abayas, kaftans, gowns and dresses.
Single-tone metallic foil is better when
- Choose single-tone foil when the collection needs a more predictable metallic colour across lighting conditions.
Compare to Plain satin
Plain satin gives a smoother traditional lustre, while this product adds a colour-shifting foil effect over a lightweight woven base.
This fabric is better when
- The rainbow surface creates stronger visual change for statement occasionwear.
- The fabric can act as the main decorative element without separate metallic embellishment.
Plain satin is better when
- Choose plain satin when a smoother, quieter surface and traditional satin lustre are more important than foil reflection.
Compare to Sequin fabric
Sequins create dimensional sparkle through attached embellishments, while this fabric creates a smoother reflective surface without sewn-on sequins.
This fabric is better when
- The smooth foil face is less physically bulky than a densely sequined textile.
- Its lightweight fluid construction is suited to flowing silhouettes.
Sequin fabric is better when
- Choose sequins when dimensional embellishment and maximum sparkle are central to the design.
