Milano Matte Sandwashed Silky Fabric
Milano Matte Sandwashed Silky Fabric is a South Korea-made lightweight woven fabric in 100% silky polyamide. At 100 GSM and 150 cm wide, it has opaque coverage, fluid drape and a non-stretch construction with a smooth sandwashed surface designed to read matte rather than highly glossy.
The subdued finish makes it useful for abayas, dresses, kaftans, blouses, skirts and relaxed occasionwear where you want silky movement without the stronger reflection of a glossy satin. Its lightweight body supports flowing silhouettes, while designs requiring firm tailoring or substantial structure may need support or a different fabric.

What buyers ask before ordering
What does the matte sandwashed finish look and feel like?
The product is specified with a soft, smooth, silky hand and a matte sandwashed surface, so it is intended to look less glossy than a traditional shiny satin while still keeping fluid movement.
Is this suitable for an abaya or flowing modestwear?
Yes. At 100 GSM with opaque coverage and fluid drape, it can work well for lightweight abayas, dresses, blouses and skirts when you want a smooth matte surface rather than a crisp structured fabric.
Is it transparent because it is only 100 GSM?
The product is specified as opaque in normal wear. Very pale colourways can still appear different under strong direct backlighting, so a physical swatch is recommended when exact coverage matters.
Does this sandwashed fabric stretch?
No. It is a non-stretch woven fabric. Fitted garments should use suitable ease, darts, seams or closures rather than relying on stretch.
Will the sandwashed appearance stay exactly the same forever?
No textile finish should be treated as permanently unchanged under every condition. Repeated abrasion, harsh washing, high heat and chemical exposure can alter surface appearance over time, so follow the stored care guidance and test demanding care methods on a swatch.
How is this different from a glossy satin?
This fabric is specified with a matte sandwashed finish and a smooth silky hand rather than a high-gloss satin face. Choose it when you want softer-looking reflection and fluid drape without a strongly shiny surface.
Is 150 cm width useful for dresses and abayas?
Yes. The 150 cm width provides practical cutting room for many dress, skirt and abaya panels, although final yield depends on garment size, pattern shape and directional layout.
What does 100 GSM mean for garment design?
It is lightweight, so it suits garments that need fluid movement and a light hand. Very structured tailoring may require support or a heavier fabric if pronounced shape retention is essential.
How will the matte silky surface photograph?
The low-gloss surface generally shows folds and drape without the strong hotspots associated with a highly reflective satin, but actual appearance still depends on colour, lighting, exposure and camera settings. Test a swatch under your intended lighting for campaign work.
Is this fabric difficult to sew because it is silky?
Smooth lightweight wovens can shift during cutting and sewing. Test a fine sharp needle, stitch tension, seam finish and pressing on a swatch, and use handling techniques suited to slippery fabric if your colourway moves under the presser foot.
Should I pre-wash it before cutting?
Do not assume a single method suits every production. Test the intended care method on a measured swatch first, dry it fully, and compare dimensions and surface appearance before deciding whether to pre-treat full yardage.
Can I use several colours in one boutique collection?
Yes. The shared 100 GSM, 150 cm, non-stretch base makes coordinated silhouettes possible across colourways. Compare physical swatches together to confirm the colours work as a collection under the same lighting.
Will a repeat order match the same colour exactly?
Small differences can occur between production batches. If garments must match across a collection, order the expected quantity together or compare a current swatch before a repeat purchase.
Is it suitable for wholesale production?
Yes. Sample the intended colourways first to approve colour, hand, opacity, drape and sewing response before committing to production quantities.
When should I choose a different fabric instead?
Choose a stretch textile for bodycon garments, a breathable natural-fibre textile when fibre composition is a priority for hot-weather basics, or a heavier structured fabric when the garment needs firm tailoring rather than fluid drape.

Before cutting this lightweight sandwashed silky woven, test the intended sewing, care and pressing method on a measured swatch so the matte surface and dimensions are approved before production.
- Relax and square Allow the fabric to lie flat and relax before final pattern placement and cutting.
- Needle Test a fine sharp needle and stitch tension on a swatch; lightweight silky wovens can show unnecessary needle marks if repeatedly unpicked.
- Cutting control Use weights or another suitable method to prevent shifting if the fabric moves on the cutting table.
- Pressing Start with low heat from the reverse or with a pressing cloth and confirm the matte finish responds safely.
- Care test Measure and treat a swatch using the intended final-care method before deciding whether to pre-treat full yardage.
General production guidance only; actual response can vary by colour, equipment, handling and care method.
Compare to Glossy satin
Glossy satin is chosen for a stronger continuous shine, while this fabric is specified with a matte sandwashed finish and a smooth fluid hand.
This fabric is better when
- The matte surface produces a quieter visual effect when strong shine is not desired.
- Its 100 GSM lightweight body suits fluid dresses, blouses, skirts and abayas.
Glossy satin is better when
- Choose glossy satin when a brighter reflective face is a central part of the design.
Compare to Plain smooth polyamide
Both may share a synthetic base, but the sandwashed finish changes the surface character of this fabric.
This fabric is better when
- The matte sandwashed treatment gives a softer-looking, less glossy surface than a plain shiny silky finish.
- It is already specified for fluid fashion garments with opaque coverage.
Plain smooth polyamide is better when
- Choose a plain smooth polyamide when you want a simpler untreated-looking surface or a different finish for printing and embellishment.
Compare to Viscose dress fabric
Viscose-based fabrics and this polyamide fabric have different fibre compositions and should be chosen according to the intended hand, care and design requirements.
This fabric is better when
- This product offers a lightweight matte silky surface with the stored opaque, fluid specification.
- It is useful when a synthetic silky base is specifically required for the garment.
Viscose dress fabric is better when
- Choose a viscose-based fabric when a cellulosic fibre composition and that fabric's particular hand are preferred.
