How to Buy Fabric by the Meter
HIBA Fabrics sells fabric by the linear meter. One meter equals 100 cm of fabric length; the fabric width is listed separately on each product page.
What does 1 meter of fabric mean?
One meter of fabric is a 100 cm linear length cut across the fabric’s full listed width. For example, if a fabric is 150 cm wide, quantity 1 is approximately a 100 × 150 cm piece; if it is 145 cm wide, quantity 1 is approximately 100 × 145 cm. A linear meter is therefore not the same as a square meter unless the fabric itself is 100 cm wide.
Minimum cut
The standard minimum fabric cut is 1 meter. Whole-meter quantities are used for meter orders unless a product page specifically states a different option.
How quantities work
- Quantity 1 = 1 meter
- Quantity 2 = 2 meters
- Quantity 3 = 3 meters
Where stock allows, we aim to prepare the ordered quantity as one continuous piece. If your project requires an uninterrupted length, contact us before ordering so the current roll can be checked.
Check fabric width before calculating meterage
Fabric width affects how much material your pattern can fit across each meter. HIBA product pages list width in centimetres together with GSM, composition, drape, transparency and stretch information where applicable.
Order a swatch first
For projects where colour, texture, shine, transparency, stretch or drape is important, order a swatch before committing to larger meter quantities. A physical swatch is the best way to judge the fabric under your own lighting and against your pattern or lining.

How many meters do I need?
Required meterage depends on garment size, fabric width, pattern layout, sleeves, fullness, lining, motif direction and repeat. Use your sewing pattern or ask your tailor/pattern maker for the exact requirement before ordering.
