Metallic Foil Sequin Fabric
Metallic Foil Sequin Fabric is a South Korea-made statement fabric combining 92% metallic polyester and 8% spandex with a reflective foil surface and sequin embellishment. At approximately 190 GSM and 150 cm wide, it offers an opaque construction with 4-way stretch, giving the fabric enough flexibility for shaped garments while maintaining a substantial, high-impact surface.
Built on a black base, the metallic foil and sequins create dimensional shine that shifts across folds and movement. Silver Gray, Soft Gold and Rose Gold finishes are available across 13 distinctive designs, ranging from abstract brush and marble effects to geometric, wave, circular and animal-inspired motifs. The contrast between the dark base and reflective decoration gives the fabric stronger visual depth than a flat metallic finish, making it especially effective under event, studio and stage lighting.

- Width: 150 cm
- Stretch: 4-way
- Coverage: opaque
- Surface: reflective metallic foil with sequin embellishment
- Base: black
- Color finishes: Silver Gray, Soft Gold and Rose Gold
- Design range: 13 patterned options
- Origin: South Korea
- Best for: evening gowns, prom and cocktail dresses, skirts, tops, stage costumes, dancewear, performance pieces and statement accessories
- Sold by: meter, swatch or wholesale
The 4-way stretch helps with fitted and shaped silhouettes, while the 190 GSM weight gives the fabric enough body for statement garments and costume work. Because metallic foil and sequin surfaces can be affected by heat, friction and repeated abrasion, test a swatch before cutting, pressing or production, and protect the decorated face during sewing and finishing.

What buyers ask before ordering
How much of the black base remains visible in the finished look?
That depends on the design. Some of the 13 patterns place the metallic foil and sequins more densely, while others leave more black base visible between motifs. Compare the close-up and draped photos for the exact design before ordering.
Will 190 GSM feel substantial in a full-length gown?
Yes. At approximately 190 GSM this is a substantial decorative fabric rather than an ultra-light dress fabric. It works well for statement gowns and structured evening silhouettes, but very full skirts and trains will naturally add more overall garment weight.
How should I orient 4-way stretch when cutting fitted garments?
This fabric stretches in both the lengthwise and crosswise directions. For fitted garments, test which direction has the most useful recovery around the body while keeping the decorative motif aligned. Check stretch and recovery on the chosen color and design before cutting.
Do the different designs look the same after gathering or ruching?
No. Larger abstract, wave and animal-inspired motifs can break up differently when gathered, while tighter geometric and circular patterns may appear denser. Test the chosen design in a small gathered sample if motif visibility is important.
If the fabric is opaque, is a lining still useful?
A lining is not required for coverage, but it can improve comfort, protect the inside of seams, reduce direct skin contact with decorative stitching, and help support fitted or formal garments.
Can the decorated surface catch on jewellery or nearby fabrics?
Yes. Raised sequins can catch on jewellery, hook-and-loop fasteners, rough trims or other delicate garments. Keep the decorated face protected during fitting, storage and transport, especially for costumes and formalwear.
Should sequins be cleared from seam allowances before sewing?
Where the embellishment is dense or interferes with the stitch line, carefully removing or trimming sequins from the seam allowance can reduce broken needles, bulky seams and surface damage. Always test the exact construction on an offcut first.
Can I use this fabric for fitted sleeves or bodice panels?
Yes, provided the pattern is designed around 4-way stretch and the 190 GSM weight. For close-fitting sleeves or highly mobile bodice areas, test reach and recovery before cutting the full garment.
How should I orient pattern pieces so the metallic surface looks consistent?
Keep all major pattern pieces facing the same visual direction unless the design intentionally mixes orientations. Foil reflection and directional motifs can look noticeably different when pieces are rotated.
Will Silver Gray, Soft Gold and Rose Gold look different under warm and cool lighting?
Yes. Metallic surfaces respond strongly to lighting temperature and angle. Warm light can make Soft Gold and Rose Gold appear richer, while cool or flash lighting can make Silver Gray and highlights read brighter. Check a swatch under the lighting planned for the event or stage.
Is this a good choice for costumes that need to read from a distance?
Yes. The combination of reflective foil and sequins creates strong light response, which is useful for stage, dance and performance pieces. For active costumes, test seam placement and surface durability in the areas that receive the most movement.
Can I use it for clutches, belts or decorative garment panels?
Yes for statement accents and low-abrasion accessories. Protect exposed edges and avoid placing the embellished face where it will rub continuously against hard surfaces, because repeated friction can wear decorative finishes.
Can I add rhinestones or heat-applied embellishments on top?
Possibly, but test first. Heat, adhesive and pressure can alter metallic foil or nearby sequins. Use an offcut to confirm the attachment method before applying additional embellishment to the finished piece.
How should leftover fabric or a finished garment be stored?
Store it flat or loosely rolled with the embellished face protected by clean tissue or smooth fabric. Avoid tight compression, hooks, rough surfaces, high heat and long exposure to direct sunlight so the foil and sequins are less likely to snag or dull.

Before cutting or sewing this 190 GSM metallic foil sequin fabric, test a swatch for stretch direction, stitching, pressing and surface durability. The reflective foil and raised sequin finish can react to needle impact, heat and friction, so confirm the safest construction method before production.
- Wash Hand wash cold, maximum 30°C, using a mild detergent and minimal agitation. Do not scrub, soak or wring the metallic foil and sequin surface.
- Dry Do not tumble dry. Gently blot excess water without twisting, reshape the fabric, then dry flat or supported in the shade away from direct heat.
- Iron Do not iron directly on the foil or sequins. If pressing is necessary, work from the reverse side at the lowest heat setting with a clean pressing cloth and minimal pressure.
- Test first Test the intended seam, needle, thread, pressing method and stretch recovery on an offcut before cutting full yardage.
- Direction Keep major pattern pieces aligned consistently with the motif and reflective direction, and place the useful 2-way stretch where the garment needs it most.
- Needle Start with a fresh stretch or ballpoint needle suited to the base and test around size 75/11–80/12; adjust if the embellishment density requires a different setup.
- Seam allowance Where dense sequins cross a seam line, carefully clear or trim them from the seam allowance instead of forcing the needle through heavy embellishment.
- Cutting Cut in a single layer when motif placement matters, protect the decorated face from scratching, and keep all major pieces in the same visual direction.
- Sewing Use clips or fine pins in seam allowances where possible, sew slowly over decorated areas, and avoid pulling the fabric while feeding it through the machine.
- Pressing Never press directly on foil or sequins. Use very low heat from the reverse with a pressing cloth, or finger-press where possible.
Test care and sewing methods on a swatch first because foil and sequin finishes can react differently to heat, moisture, friction and machine settings.
