Sheer Waterfall Shimmer Stretch Tulle Fabric
Sheer Waterfall Shimmer Stretch Tulle Fabric is designed around movement: its reflective surface creates a flowing waterfall-like shimmer over a fine transparent stretch-tulle base. Knitted in South Korea from 95% polyester and 5% spandex, it is 100 GSM, 150 cm wide and offers 4-way stretch with a fluid drape.
The elongated visual flow of the shimmer works particularly well in garments where fabric movement is visible, such as long overlays, draped dresses, capes, skirts, dance costumes and stagewear. Light travels across folds rather than reading as one flat block of shine, while the sheer ground allows the colour and depth of the underlayer to remain part of the finished look.

The reflective finish should be treated as a decorative surface. Preserve its flowing appearance by limiting rubbing, harsh pressing and contact with rough hardware, and test the planned cutting direction and finishing method before producing long or directional panels.

What buyers ask before ordering
Does the waterfall effect have a preferred direction when cutting?
The flowing shimmer is most intentional when the visual direction is planned consistently across major panels. Lay the fabric out before cutting and compare orientations under light, especially for long skirts, capes and dresses.
Will the shimmer look different when the garment moves?
Yes. This design is especially responsive to folds and motion, so the reflected light shifts as the fabric drapes, swings or gathers. Stage and evening lighting can make that movement more noticeable.
Is this fabric suitable for long overlays and capes?
It is well suited to flowing outer layers because the 100 GSM base stays relatively light and the fluid drape allows the reflective effect to travel through long folds. Sample the finished length if using several meters.
What kind of lining works best under the waterfall shimmer?
A tonal lining gives a smoother, more blended depth, while contrast can make the sheer areas and reflective movement more dramatic. For fitted garments, choose an underlayer with compatible stretch.
Can I use the fabric without lining for a transparent stage layer?
Yes when intentional sheerness is part of the design. A single layer remains transparent, so plan underwear, bodysuit, base garment and seam finishes with that visibility in mind.
Does gathering interrupt the flowing effect?
Gathering changes it rather than eliminating it: folds concentrate the reflective areas and create shorter, more active flashes of light. Test different gather ratios to decide whether you want a calm or more dramatic surface.
Would pleats work with this shimmer finish?
Soft pleats can emphasize light-and-shadow movement, but sharp pressing is not recommended on the decorative surface. Form and secure pleats with minimal heat and test the technique first.
Can the waterfall tulle be used for dance costumes?
Yes. Four-way stretch and a fluid lightweight base support movement, while the reflective finish adds motion under stage light. Design high-friction areas so they do not constantly rub against rough trims or props.
How will the fabric behave over a stretch jersey base?
A compatible stretch jersey can provide coverage while allowing the outer tulle to keep much of its 4-way movement. Test both layers together because different stretch and recovery rates can affect fit.
Can I place seams across the direction of the shimmer?
You can, but visible joins may interrupt the flow. On statement panels, consider seam placement and pattern direction during layout so the reflective movement appears deliberate.
Is direct steaming safe for the reflective finish?
Avoid assuming it is. Polyester-spandex and decorative surface treatments can react to concentrated heat, so test steam from the reverse or at a distance on an offcut before treating the garment.
Why should I order a swatch if the specifications are already listed?
A swatch lets you judge the direction of the shimmer, transparency over your chosen base, movement in folds, stretch compatibility and reaction to your exact sewing and pressing process—details that specifications alone cannot fully show.

- Wash gently Hand wash cold at up to 30°C with mild detergent, supporting the fabric in the water and avoiding rubbing along the reflective surface.
- Air dry Do not wring or tumble. Let the fabric drain naturally and dry in shade, preferably flat so the tulle is not pulled while wet.
- Heat care Do not place a hot iron directly on the shimmer. If required, use the reverse side, very low heat and a protective pressing cloth.
- Preserve the finish Limit hard creasing, abrasion, bleach and contact with coarse hardware so the flowing reflective effect stays as even as possible.
- Check before making Test an offcut with the intended wash, steam, press and sewing process, especially for long panels or heavily draped garments.
