Sheer Lightweight Viscose Embossed Jacquard Fabric
Sheer Lightweight Viscose Embossed Jacquard Fabric is an ultra-light woven fabric where raised motifs such as Flower, Big Leaf, Leaf and Small Leaf sit against a translucent base. At 102 GSM and 150 cm wide, it is fluid enough for kaftan overlays, open layers and lined dress panels, while the jacquard construction keeps the motif visible instead of flat.
Use it over a lining or underlayer to show the full contrast between the sheer base and raised texture. Available in Formal Black, Dark Blue and Dark Burgundy across four woven motifs. Made in Türkiye from 80% viscose and 20% polyester.
Order a swatch first to check sheerness, colour, lining choice and drape before committing to production yardage.

What buyers ask before ordering
Does Sheer Lightweight Viscose Embossed Jacquard need lining?
Yes. It is listed as sheer, so it should be used with a lining, underdress or inner layer when full coverage is needed.
What is this sheer jacquard best used for?
It is best for overlay abayas, cape abayas, kaftan layers, lightweight dress overlays, blouse layers and decorative modestwear panels.
How light is the fabric?
It is 102 GSM and 150 cm wide, so it is a lightweight sheer woven fabric rather than a structured opaque base cloth.
What is the composition?
The stored composition is 80% viscose and 20% polyester.
Does this fabric stretch?
No. It is listed as non-stretch, so use patterns designed for stable woven fabrics and allow for movement through cut and drape.
Is the motif printed or woven?
The motif is woven into the fabric as an embossed jacquard texture, not printed on the surface.
Which motif names are available?
The stored motif directions include Flower, Big Leaf, Leaf and Small Leaf.
Which color names are available?
The stored color names include Formal Black, Dark Blue and Dark Burgundy.
Can I use it as a standalone dress fabric?
Only if the garment is lined or intentionally layered. Because the fabric is sheer, it is not intended as a standalone opaque dress fabric.
What lining should I choose?
Choose a lining or inner layer based on the finished garment’s desired coverage, color match and comfort. Test the outer fabric over the intended underlayer before cutting.
How does it compare with plain chiffon?
Plain chiffon is sheer and smooth, while this fabric adds a woven embossed jacquard motif for visible surface texture.
Is it suitable for warm-weather layering?
Its 102 GSM weight and sheer construction make it suitable for lightweight layers, with final comfort depending on the underlayer and garment fullness.
Can boutiques use it for overlay pieces?
Yes. The shared base fabric across motifs and colors makes it suitable for coordinated overlay abayas, kaftans and boutique layered pieces.
What should I test before sewing?
Test opacity over lining, seam handling, shifting, pressing and how the embossed texture responds to steam and pressure.
Where is this fabric made?
This sheer viscose embossed jacquard fabric is made in Türkiye.

Before cutting or sewing this sheer lightweight viscose embossed jacquard, test a swatch for washing, steaming, pressing, opacity and shrinkage. The fabric is light and sheer, so lining choice and gentle handling are especially important.
- Test first Test a small piece before washing, steaming, pressing or cutting the full fabric.
- Opacity Check the fabric over the intended lining or underlayer before production.
- Texture Use light pressure when pressing to avoid flattening the embossed jacquard texture.
- Wash Use cold gentle handling or dry clean if you want the safest route for the finished garment.
- Dry Do not tumble dry. Air dry gently in shade and avoid strong wringing.
- Cutting Let the fabric relax flat before cutting and use careful layout because sheer fabrics can shift.
General care guidance only. Results may vary by colour, sheerness, lining, steam, water quality and garment construction.
Compare to Plain Chiffon Overlay
Plain chiffon is the most common sheer overlay in abaya construction — lightweight, fluid, and widely available, but with no surface pattern.
This fabric is better when
- Has an embossed woven motif built into the structure, so the overlay layer itself carries visual depth and texture rather than being a plain transparent layer
- The woven motif is part of the fabric's structure and will not fade, crack, or wash out over time the way a printed surface pattern would
- Reads as more elevated and distinct in abaya photography and in-person because the raised pattern creates depth that a flat chiffon cannot replicate
Plain Chiffon Overlay is better when
- Plain chiffon is typically more affordable and available in a wider color range for mass production
- For very fluid, voluminous overlays like tiered skirts or extremely full kaftan sleeves, plain chiffon's neutrality can be easier to manage visually
Compare to Opaque Crepe or Nida Abaya Fabric
Opaque crepe and Nida are the most common standalone abaya fabrics, providing full coverage without any lining requirement.
This fabric is better when
- Provides a layered, dimensional look where the embossed sheer overlay creates texture and depth over an inner dress or lining layer
- The layered construction allows the inner garment and outer overlay to be designed separately, giving more flexibility for mix-and-match abaya or kaftan collections
- The embossed woven motif adds visual interest to the outer layer without requiring embroidery or embellishment
Opaque Crepe or Nida Abaya Fabric is better when
- Opaque crepe or Nida can be worn as a single layer without any lining, which is simpler to construct and more practical for everyday wear
- Easier to sew and pattern-grade for production since there is no sheer layer to manage separately
Compare to Organza or Silk-Look Sheer
Organza is a stiff sheer with a crisp, structured quality, widely used in formal abaya overlays and bridal modest wear.
This fabric is better when
- Viscose-based and softer in hand than organza, giving it a more fluid, draped movement suited to layered kaftan and open abaya silhouettes
- The embossed woven motif provides surface interest without the stiffness of organza, which can create unwanted volume or rustling in everyday formal wear
- More breathable than organza due to the viscose fiber content, making it better suited for extended wear in warm climates
Organza or Silk-Look Sheer is better when
- Organza holds a structured, voluminous shape better, suited to formal bridal or evening abayas where a dramatic, stiff overlay effect is specifically desired
- Organza is available in a wider range of colors and is easier to source at very high volumes
